Call for Op-Ed submissions: 100 words on heroes/heroism.

A hero, according to an online dictionary, is “a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.”
Or he is “a being of godlike prowess and beneficence who often came to be honored as a divinity.”
That seems awfully narrow to me. So, I want to know what you think makes a hero. I want to know about someone you consider a hero or a time you felt like a hero. Or you can just give me your definition for ‘hero’ or ‘heroism’. You can tell me how much you hate the “hero” archetypes. Anything goes. I just want your opinions. That’s all.
